Cel przedmiotu

The Architectural and Sculptural Design Studio at the Faculty of Sculpture, Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, conducts both educational and research-popularization activities, focusing on the interdisciplinary issues of spatial design. The Studio’s program for the fourth-year students covers advanced topics related to the development of the expressive language of visual arts, the relationship between the design process and the experience of sculptural material, as well as the analysis of the objective spatial conditions of a site, all considered key components of architectural and sculptural design.
The Architectural and Sculptural Design Studio offers interdisciplinary courses at the intersection of sculpture, urban planning, architecture, and landscape design. Participation is compulsory for all students. A significant element of the fourth-year program, in addition to the main design project, is advanced training in presenting architectural and sculptural solutions (visualization, model-making, detailing) and participation in joint projects with external partners (e.g., the Social Committee for the Restoration of Krakow’s Monuments).
The Studio is the only unit at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow that formally trains students in the design of monument-related solutions and the integration of monumental sculptural forms into architectural, urban, and landscape contexts. The Studio’s program addresses, among other topics, atmosphere, the emotional perception of space, and social responsibility in the context of creative work.

For fifth-year students (winter semester), classes are conducted through a fully personalized collaboration process based on the principles of creative dialogue. Topics may include the creation of new, original spatial designs, further development of previously prepared architectural and sculptural solutions, or a focus on theoretical aspects and the characteristics of the design process. In each case, the scope of work is determined individually.
